Here is what Faux Painting School
Does for You
No product manufacturer representatives are invited to class to waste your time &
money selling their products after you have paid for the class.
-
We provide
lifetime follow-up support
to our graduates, not just a few months. We can do this because our teachers are in-house teachers.
They are always on staff and available to answer your questions. We allow former students of the Comprehensive classes to return and audit
the comprehensive course for free as a refresher for 3 months following their initial class, paying only for the sample boards they create and keep. Of course, space is
limited and subject to availability.
-
The artists who teach at Faux Painting School believe that teaching their finely tuned expertise
in decorative art is
not only a career, but a calling
. That is one reason the cost of each class is considerably less than any of its
competitors. There is a need in the industry to understand that art and creativity are essential to humanity. It is a
gift to teach skills that can be passed down from generation to generation, giving the past a
home. Motivating and nurturing a student is part of the gift we pass on. By students
allowing us to teach them, it gives us a gift. Obviously, we want to see a profit for our
teaching but charging a fair price is part of that gift.
-
Faux Painting School teaches readily available products
made by many different manufacturers. We do not
endorse just one line of products. The quality products that we do use and
recommend are manufactured by companies that specialize in, and understand,
the faux finish and decorative art industry.
Of course, you will need specialty products to run a
successful decorative art business and we will teach you what to look for in
the products you need.
-
This web site is our main source of advertising.
We do not print expensive brochures. This keeps our overhead cost
down and that is another reason that the cost of classes is less. All of the information needed to make an informative decision
about which school to choose is on the Faux Painting School web site. This takes the mystery
and some of the stress out of your search.

Sher & Jim Galeotti and
Sherree Andersen are skilled in their professions with both
education and experience
behind them. Ask about the teacher’s
education at
other schools. The teachers at Faux Painting School are masters through education and
experience. See our artist pages for details on education and training. Or contact us. We are
more than happy to assist you in any way we can. References are available. Please visit our
testimonial page on this web site.
Susan (Sher) Galeotti has worked as a decorative artist

at Faux Painting School. She graduated from

attended the Universities of California, Los Angeles and Sacramento; Orange Coast College Art
and construction schools. Susan (Sher) was trained in Venetian
plaster by a Master from the Verona School of Italian
Stuccos.
Sherree Andersen, since a young age, has apprenticed
with Susan (Sher) and has since partnered with her in the decorative arts business for 15
years. She was trained by a master and has the experience to handle the teaching she has been
doing for four years. She attended Hancock
College; Santa Rosa College; University of Oregon.

an AA and BA in business management, a masters in court administration, a Juris Doctor in Law, and over 30 years experience as a lawyer, judge, systems analyst, court

Although there are many skilled
persons in the general contracting and paint contracting business, many do not have the
artistic education in faux finishing, Venetian
plaster, and other decorative arts as well as the
experience to teach. How can one teach what he has not mastered with years of experience?
There are faux painting schools run and taught by painters who bought a faux finishing product
system without the artistic education needed to teach artists to become masters of their craft.
Faux Painting School is a faux finishing school taught by skilled professionals
educated in the decorative arts.
-
Class size is intentionally limited
to ensure interactive, personalized instruction -
5 persons
for faux finishing, 5 persons for Venetian Plaster. One of the
requirements we have for teaching at Faux Painting School is that no class will be over
5
students.
-
Each class is
interruption free.
We do not stop the class to sell product, buy product, sell our
class to "drop ins", check our email, check our messages, or answer the telephone.
Since you are a paying customer, your education is most important to us.
-
With each
Faux Painting School course,
you receive a manual with detailed instructions
on every faux painting technique taught. It has ideas, different color
combinations for the finish, a color chart of colors used, surface types and preparation, color
and its impact, color and lighting, and the best situation for which that particular technique
can be used. Paint and its chemistry is explained in detail - good paint, bad paint, paint tools,
paint products, products used in faux finishing or murals, where to purchase each product at the
least expense (sometimes wholesale), and the care of paint and its tools.
-
After a demonstration of the techniques
used in creating a certain sample board, the student will
practice each technique on a vertical surface with
a practice board using quality tools and products. When the student has mastered the techniques,
they will then create a sample for their portfolio on a large sheet of polystyrene or wall board,
whatever is appropriate for that technique. Each student of a faux finish class will take home
large samples on durable material for their distinctive portfolio. In the Comprehensive
Trompe L’oeil Course students will create their masterpiece on a mural sized 4 ½ foot by 6 foot
canvas.
-
At
our faux painting school the curriculum changes with the
trends of decorating.
Faux Painting School concentrates on designer finishes that sell. Wood grain went out of favor for a while but it
is back, so now wood grain is taught. The idea is for
you to make a living at faux finishing or any decorative art. If a design is so labor intensive
that you will end up working for love not money, then it will NOT be taught in the Comprehensive
Course. However, it may be taught in a specialty course meant for those who are on the way to
a mastery in the decorative art field.
-
Upon completion of any Comprehensive class and/or Venetian Plaster class, a
certificate
suitable for framing and similar to a college
diploma is issued in your name or the name of
your business.
-
The business course
is the only course available today that was developed by a lawyer,
accountant, tax consultant, a business person, and several master decorative artists who have
worked in the field for over 20 years. Jim Galeotti, a lawyer with a degree in business,
teaches the legal and tax aspects of the course. Susan (Sher) Galeotti and Sherree Andersen
teach advertising, marketing, pricing, estimating, color theory, preparation and how to handle
a consultation. A manual or a CD of the business course is provided, with everything written in an easily
understood manner.
to see an explanation of the Business Course. This is the most
comprehensive business course offered, and makes us unique from other faux
finishing schools.
-
We teach proper surface preparation, help
you understand the chemical composition of paints, and when and how to use the right product
to maximize your productivity.
-
Multi-layered combinations of
techniques are practiced on either a
actual wall off-site (charitable contribution), or on a large column. This helps
the student understand wet edges, edges in particular and corners. Of course,
you will practice working with edges and corners on every practice board.
-
The Comprehensive Courses are designed to
take each student from simple beginning techniques, to
intermediate, and to some complex advanced levels such
as multi-layered marbles and wood grains. After the course, the student will have the ability and
the knowledge to start earning money in the field immediately.
-
All
supplies are included
in every class and lunches are included
in the Comprehensive courses. The meals we provide always
get rave reviews, because we chose quality restaurants, not fast food. At the
Missouri school, we have a restaurant on site with chefs who have operated many fine
restaurants on the East coast.
-
Our
classroom remains open at the end of
each day for students to practice and create extra sample boards for their
portfolios without supervision. One Faux Painting School graduate, Camela, audited
the Comprehensive Faux Finish Course and created 28 new boards
in a week. As she said, "Where could I get the variety of products, the variety of colors, the space and the
guidance to create 28 boards in a week’s time? I don’t have that kind of inventory. Being with other creative
people inspires me to do more."
-
Make
lifetime friendships with fellow
students and become a part of our family of artists.
